Morales says he is qualified to run for president despite court decision

The Prosecutor's Office will issue an arrest warrant for Evo Morales to testify in the case of trafficking

The Bolivian Prosecutor’s Office requested six months of provisional prison for Ramiro Cucho and Humberto Claros, allies of former President Evo Morales, detained for alleged crimes of terrorism, criminal association and kidnappings

The former president of Bolivia Evo Morales insisted that he is qualified as a candidate of the Movement towards Socialism (MAS) for the next elections, despite the fact that the Constitutional Court stripped him of the party’s leadership in favor of Grover García, from the wing of President Luis Arce .

“Evo is still authorized, Evo is still president of the MAS and that is why they continue to persecute us,” said the former president this November 15 in an interview with the peasant radio station Kawsachun Coca.

Morales asked his followers not to be influenced by the latest court rulings. He called on them to attend a new “national meeting” of the party on November 22 in the town of Lauca, in Cochabamba, to define the “future and resistance.”

The schism in the MAS originated when Morales held a congress in Lauca, in which he was elected head of the party, in parallel to the official meeting that took place in El Alto, where García was the one supported, in the context of the political crisis. that maintains the sectors related to the former president with those of Luis Arce.

On social networks, Morales has appealed to the union of the party and its militants in order to “protect what has been conquered, defend what has been built and deepen what has been advanced.” “Unity to take care of each other, to sustain each other in adversity.”

They ask for prison for Morales allies

The Bolivian Prosecutor’s Office requested six months of provisional prison for Ramiro Cucho and Humberto Claros, allies of former President Evo Morales, detained for alleged crimes of terrorism, criminal association and kidnappings.

«We are going to be objective (…) an exhaustive investigation was carried out; responsible and objective on the part of the commission of prosecutors of La Paz,” said the State Attorney General, Roger Mariaca, reports the Bolivian newspaper ‘La Razón’.

Claros, leader of a peasant union, and Cucho, head of an organization of indigenous peoples, were arrested for crimes of terrorism, armed uprising against the security and sovereignty of the State, trafficking and illicit possession of weapons, association to commit crimes and kidnapping, among others.

The police reported that when they searched “Cucho’s” house in Potosí they found “weapons and war ammunition.”

Just over a hundred people have been arrested for their participation in those protests that blocked the roads to the east and west of Bolivia from the department of Cochabamba for 24 days, also leading to clashes with the Police and even the taking of hostages and military regiments. .
