The former president of Bolivia Evo Morales (2006-2019) announced with his followers that he will join the political party against victory (FPV) and will be applied as a “unique candidate” to the presidency for the elections of August 17, after lose the historical leadership of almost 30 years of the official movement to socialism (MAS).
“We already have the game to participate in this year’s elections!” Morales said from the Tropic of Cochabamba (center), his political and union bastion, where he has not left since October 24, 2024, and in the which is protected by its related to avoid an order of capture against it for a case of aggravated trafficking of people.
“With the Front for Victory again we will win the national elections (…) I want them to know that there is no conditioning, here is everything to save Bolivia,” said the ex -president, one day before the most of the wing related to the related to President Luis Arce, from whom he is distanced, held a congress to define the mechanisms to choose the official binomial, already without the participation of Evo Morales.
The agreement signed between the movement led by Morales and the FPV, by Eliseo Rodríguez, in the town of Lauca Ñ establishes that the former head of state is the “unique candidate” to the presidency, while the name of the applicant to the vice presidency will be defined later in order to “resolve the issues of justice, economy and others.”
It is also mentioned that there is a “coincidence” between the Morales block and the FPV in terms of principles and values.
This is “to carry out our country that is going bankruptcy (…) the only condition we have is for the good of the poor to get out of this deep crisis,” said Eliseo Rodríguez.
The FPV participated in the frustrated elections of 2019 and in 2020 promoted the candidacy of the Korean-Bolivian Evangelical Pastor Chi Hyun Chung, amid criticism for copying in two elections the government plan of a Peruvian party.
Evo Morales ceased to be the president of the MAS after almost three decades after the judicial and electoral bodies validated a congress held in May 2024 by the ‘Arcista’ wing, as the followers of Luis Arce are known, which he chose as the new leader of the Government Party to the leader Grover García.
The ex -president has announced that he will register his candidacy with thousands of his followers who will march to the city of La Paz, on a date still unconfirmed.
Morales insists that he is enabled to be a candidate despite a constitutional ruling that establishes that re-election in Bolivia is for “one time” continuously or discontinuously, and he already ruled the country for three periods in a row (2006-2009, 2010 -2014 and 2015-2019).
Arce and Morales have been distanced since the late 2021 due to differences in the administration of the State that deepened before the need to renew the National Directorate of MAS and in the last year also by the official candidacy for the elections planned for August 17.
Although Arce still did not confirm his nomination, the Bolivian president is emerging as the main option of the MAS according to several analysts, because he has the control of the state apparatus since so far in his block an alternative leader has not emerged, according to some analysts .
