Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) determined that Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, former Jair Bolsonaro orders, clarifies why a Portuguese passport requested.
The request for clarification was sent on Thursday (20) to the defense of Cid, one of the investigation whistleblowers that found the coup plot to prevent the third term of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
In the subpoena, Cid had 24 hours to explain “why he requested a Portuguese passport and if he has already received the Portuguese Identity Card which was requested”.
Defense
In response to the Supreme Court Minister, lawyer Cesar Bittencourt Cid filed a request for Portuguese citizenship on January 11, 2023 (after attacks on January 8). According to the defense, the request was made “only and exclusively” because his wife and daughters already have Portuguese citizenship.
Bittencourt confirmed that the Portuguese ID card was issued and sent in 2024. The lawyer also said that “Portuguese portfolio is just an identification document”, which is valid in that country. He denied that he requested a foreign passport.
“It is important to highlight to you [Moraes]that the petitioner did not request and has no Portuguese (European) passport, this yes, a document that would allow him, if he had, trips through any country member of the European Union or other countries that have free circulation agreements with the EU, “he said.
The defense also made a point of stressing that Mauro Cid has no intention of fleeing Brazil and is willing to deliver the document.
“The petitioner has entered into award -winning agreement with an electronic anklet, and it is impossible to undertake a trip abroad without authorization from this judgment,” added the defender.
