The cases attended by the Women’s Emergency Centers (CEM) of Moquegua attended from January to November of this year more than 1,500 cases in interventions and preventive actions, the majority being in the San Antonio district of the Mariscal Nieto province and the city of Ilo .

According to statistics from the CEM Moquegua, in said period there were cases of psychological violence in 46%, physical 41% and sexual 11.9%. Most of the victims were registered because they were related to a couple and a family relationship.

In these three types of violence, according to age and sex groups, the incidence occurs more in women between the ages of 30 to 59 years, followed by men between 19 and 29 years. 81.4% of people attended by the CEM reported having suffered violence repeatedly, while 18.5% for the first time.

Among the main causes of relationship problems, the victims indicated that it originated from jealousy, drunkenness and economic problems.
Urge to seek help
The specialists warn women to learn to detect the possessive and aggressive attitudes of men from the time of falling in love and courtship, to end the relationship to avoid later problems, since they can lead to physical aggression and even death.
CEM authorities called on women who are victims of any type of violence to seek help and report. There is line 100 which is free and can be consulted at any time. There are also CEMs in various police stations in the city.
