MOP could lose $100 million if it does not execute a project in the Juan Díaz river basin

A project that would mitigate flooding in the districts of Juan Díaz and Don Bosco has remained stalled for three years, despite having approved financing of $100 million.

The work that includes works and improvements in the Juan Díaz river basin, the construction of rainwater channels, erosion control in the basin, reforestation and slope control, has not been initiated by the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) Therefore, residents of these districts ask the entity to execute the loan contract granted by the Inter-American Development Bank for that purpose.

The representative of the district of Don Bosco, Guillermo Bermúdez, said that the MOP is aware that these works would mitigate the problems of flooding, and despite this they have not executed the project three years after the budget was approved.

The worrying thing, according to Bermúdez, is that the contract establishes that if it is not executed by December of this year, the MOP will lose the funds and the community will be the most affected by the imminent floods that are coming with the rainy season.

The residents of the area assured that they have sent notes to the Minister of Public Works, Rafael Sabonge, but that none has been attended to, not even because the law obliges them to respond in no more than 30 days to any request.

The circuit deputy, Víctor Castillo, a member of the government party, who was at the meeting promised to meet with Minister Sabonge to bring a response to the residents.
