MOP approved extension of works in Puente Chacao and delivery deadline will be delayed nine months

The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) approved the extension of the Chacao Bridge works, so the delivery will be delayed by nine months from the scheduled date.

The bridge that will link the island of Chiloé with the mainland should be ready by the first quarter of 2025. However, it is expected to be completed at the beginning of 2026, according to what the Undersecretary of Public Works, José Herrera, told Bio Bio Radio.

After a visit to the viaduct works, it was determined that due to the difficulties brought by the Covid-19 pandemic, the construction works will have to be extended.

“The company made a claim regarding the impact that Covid had had on the times and deadlines for project execution, and this claim was accepted,” Herrera said.

Regarding the additional costs that this extension will bring, from the MOP they assured that it will be the company that will cover these expenses, noting that there is a “contract and an agreement that regulates this.”
