The undersecretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Remo Monzeglio, confirmed that he will take legal action against the former National Director of the portfolio, Dr. Martín Pérez Banchero, from Palmira and former departmental mayor.
“I am going to go to court against someone who said that I lied in the Prosecutor’s Office and lying in the Prosecutor’s Office is a crime,” Monzeglio said.
The hierarch announced that he will be represented by the lawyer Andrés Ojeda and that he made the decision in response to a series of accusations made against him by Pérez Banchero in a television program in the country’s capital.
“Monzeglio lies in the Prosecutor’s Office and he does it to cover up (Germán) Cardoso and to cover himself up, and I as a lawyer am analyzing the actions,” the former Colorado mayor fired.
He also accused the current undersecretary of being “a machine for collecting per diem without meaning, requesting publicity and qualifications outside the law and doing everything under a modus operandi:” he was aware of these situations, with one characteristic: the things he asked for in his most were irregular,” Pérez Banchero said at the time.
On the accusation that he made that he travels a lot to Punta del Este, Undersecretary Monzeglio defended himself by arguing that part “of his functions is the supervision of the office” in that city of the Ministry of Tourism.
Between July 2020 and August 2021, Monzeglio made 34 trips for which he requested travel expenses, of which about 17 (half) went to Punta del Este, mostly on weekends.
The chief insisted that these trips are part of his job, which is “to be with the tour operators”.
He added that sometimes he even puts “money out of his pocket” to pay the difference between the cost of staying in some hotels and the travel expenses he receives from his wallet.
“Pérez Banchero has been evaluating taking legal action for 14 months, he is a bit slow in making decisions. And at this moment, I begin legal actions against Dr. Pérez Banchero. I am not going to wait 14 months, nor 14 hours. I am going to go to court against a person who said, among other things, that I lied in the Prosecutor’s Office. Lying in court is a crime. Pérez Banchero is going to have to answer because he said that I lied in the Prosecutor’s Office, ”said Monzeglio, who also denied having lied in the investigative commission and announced that he will be represented by the lawyer Andrés Ojeda. Asked about the political projection that Pérez Banchero saw (List 15), the Undersecretary of Tourism replied that he was surprised that from the Colorado Party “they don’t come out and say that this man is the ugly duckling, nobody wants him”, sentenced the Deputy Minister of Tourism Remo Monzeglio.
