The compatriot epee climbed last night to the podium in the women’s épée mode, after making a pool phase (groups) with 5 victories, positioning herself at the end in the 7th pre-qualifying place.
In the qualifying rounds, she first defeated Colombian Oriana Tovar 15-9, then defeated Mexican María Morales 15-13; she subsequently achieved a very important victory against the Peruvian María Doig with the score 15-10; already in the semifinals she fell to the American Katharine Holmes 15-11, thus occupying the third place and receiving a meritorious bronze medal.
The conquest of the medal allows Montserrat to qualify for the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, in addition to being the first Paraguayan medal in a senior category Pan American fencing event.
Other compatriots who took part in the date were Luciana García, Janine Hanspach and Natalia Fleitas, they occupied positions 50, 52 and 55, respectively.
In men’s sword, José Casco, Hugo Cacace, Carlos Viveros and Nicolas Leguizamón were placed 35, 45, 51, 56 respectively
Today the jousts will be held in the sword modality for men’s and women’s teams.
