Months without pay transport workers in Pinar del Río

MADRID, Spain.- During a plenary meeting of the National Transport Workers Union held this week in Pinar del Río, the workers denounced months of delays in salary payments.

Until last September in that province, more than a thousand employees in the sector had not been paid for three months, said Yoslandy Boy, head of the Transport and Ports Union Bureau, during the meeting.

Although “happily the debt could be paid, after the passage of Hurricane Ian, the debts will grow again,” added Yoslandy Boy, aforementioned by the official media Workers.

For his part, Fermín Umpierre, general secretary of the union, declared that the organization “will not tire of combating the chain of non-payments that causes the aforementioned arrears, which is illegal”.

“Worker representatives, we have to analyze the matter in depth and we will have to take the discussion to higher levels; under the current conditions the salary barely reaches the worker, imagine if it is paid with those arrears”, said José Antonio Pérez, of the National Secretariat of the Cuban Workers Central (CTC).

In this same province, in July of this year it emerged that there were delays in payments to the workers of the Pharmacy and Opticians Company.

Last week a teacher from Las Tunas published a post on Facebook where he complained about not having received his salary for September.

These wage arrears, that are already low, constitute a violation of the provisions of the Labor Code, the main document that regulates the country’s labor policy, which contemplates the inviolability of executing these payments on the agreed dates. Likewise, it also fails to comply with what must be stipulated in the letter of the Collective Labor Agreements, which establishes, after negotiation between the union and the administration, the moment in which the latter must pay the salary of its workers.
