Month of French Culture in Cuba underway

From this week until next May 26, the sixth edition of the Month of the French Culture in Cubaofficial media reports.

The conference, which is headquartered in Havana, returns in face-to-face format after its suspension in 2020 and its realization only on television last year due to the pandemic, precise the Cuban News Agency (ACN).

The report adds that on this occasion, dance, visual arts, theater, music and film activities will take place, among other manifestations, with the presence of “numerous French artists” and “an eclectic, varied and particularly surprising program for the Cuban public.” ».

“We have the opportunity to resume the face-to-face version open to the general public of this artistic meeting, which is already part of the Cuban cultural agenda,” said the Ambassador of France in Cuba, Patrice Paoli, at the beginning of the cultural day, last May 3.

Paoli added that “many French artists responded present and agreed to exhibit their work, to collaborate with Cuban creators and to honor their respective disciplines.”

Among the Gallic creators present is the photographer Denis Darzacq, who will show his work with disabled people through two series entitled Act I and Act II. He will be joined by the speaker Jean Minguet, who will speak on the current state of the contemporary art market.

For his part, the conductor Rémy Ballot, will offer two exclusive concerts on May 8 and 17, at the National Theater and the San Felipe Neri Oratory, leading the Cuban National Symphony.

Meanwhile, from the 6th to the 8th, the Havana Theater Martí will host the contemporary dance performance Requiem (Sià kara) by Franco-Tunisian choreographer Radhouane El Meddeb, performed by dancers from MiCompañia, a group led by teacher Susana Pous.

In addition, another piece of contemporary dance, entitled eat it and directed by Franco-Colombian dancer and choreographer Alexi Marimón. This will be on May 20, 21 and 22.

And as for the cinema, there will be a cycle of French films in the La Rampa room, at 3:00 pm (children’s session) or 6:00 pm (adults’ session), while French films will be screened in television, notes the news office.

In this context, the French government delivered this Thursday in Havana a donation of 18 tons of medical equipment and supplies to Cuba, “in support of the plan for the prevention and control of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus and for the benefit of the health institutions of the country”, highlights another report from the ACN.

The donation includes antigen tests, examination gloves, surgical and KN95 masks, respirators, circuits and filters for respirators, disposable gowns, protective screens and sampling kits valued at $1,645,000, the agency reports.

The information adds that the donation is part of “the spirit of solidarity between both countries and the ties of cooperation, which they maintain in the area of ​​health and in areas such as academic, cultural, scientific, urban and agricultural development” , according to what was expressed by the French ambassador on the island.
