On the occasion of the commemoration of Food Day, on Saturday, October 15, the Intendancy organizes different proposals starting at 11 am, in the Botanical Garden (Av. 19 de Abril 1181). Starting at 11:00 am, open and free workshops will be held for all public, in charge of various dependencies of the Intendancy, among them the Food Regulation Servicethe Art History Museum (Muhar) and the Montevideo Rural Unit.
The objective of the activity is to show the importance of food throughout history, to highlight the population’s right to food and its food security.
The World Food Day It is celebrated every October 16. The FAOa United Nations agency that works internationally to combat hunger, commemorates this date under the slogan “Leave no one behind”.
The schedule for Saturday the 15th is as follows:
11:00 a.m.: opening
· Hour 11.15: cooking in history as a pillar in the accessibility to food
· Hour 11.45: the symbolic relevance of food in indigenous cultures
· Hour 12.30: consumer’s right to information: how to read a label?
· Hour 13.00: agriculture in small areas in urban areas: encounter of cultures of Montevideo Rural, importance of rural areas in cities
· Hour 14.00: tour and recognition of organic garden
3:00 p.m.: delivery of garden seeds
In addition, there will be an entrepreneurship fair run by women from rural areas, which is organized to commemorate Rural Women’s Day on this day.
