Necaxa beat Pumas UNAM 3-1 and Chivas beat Tijuana 2-1

The Rayados de Monterrey defeated this wednesday by 2-0 to the Roosters of Querétaro and regained the lead Clausura 2023 Mexican soccer tournament. The Argentine Rogelio Funes Mori was second alone in the scoring table, by achieving his sixth goal, and Arturo González scored his fifth goal to shape the triumph of the Rayados coach Víctor Manuel Vucetich, with six consecutive victories, one defeat and 18 points, two more than the UANL Tigers.

In the first half, Monterrey had possession of the ball in their favor, 54-46, and reflected it on the scoreboard with a right-footed shot from Funes Mori past gonzalez, who touched the net from the right at minute 35, for 2-0. Monterrey maintained their dominance, but seemed content with a two-goal lead against a Querétaro side that was outplayed.

Rayados and Tigres are followed in the standings by the Águilas del América, who on Tuesday defeated San Luis 3-1, with two goals from World Cup player Henry Martín, leading scorer with nine goals, and one from Diego Valdés. The Äguilas of the Argentine strategist Fernando Ortiz add 13 points, the same as the champion Pachuca, who will visit Mazatlán this Thursday and if he wins, he will rise to second place.

In another match this Wednesday the Chivas de Guadalajara of the Spanish Serbian strategist Veljko Paunovic went from less to more to win by 2-1 to the Tijuana, with two penalties taken by Víctor Guzmán, after the visitors had taken advantage with a score by Argentine Federico Lertora. Guadalajara rose to fifth place with 12 points, two over León, which on Tuesday beat Puebla 2-0, with goals from Argentine Lucas Di Yorio and Mexican Paul Bellón.

For his part, the Spanish Édgar Méndez scored a couple of goals this Wednesday to guide the Necaxa to a victory of 3-1 Over the UNAM Cougars. Méndez, twice, and the Uruguayan Agustín Oliveros scored for the Pumas and the Argentine Nicolás Freire did it for the Pumas. In minute 2 Méndez scored with a header from Alexis Peña’s pass and extended the lead in minute 6 with a forehand on an assist from Uruguayan Maximiliano Silveira. The university students recovered, dominated in the last half hour of the initial half, but they found a good defense that dried up the attacks until Freire scored with a header at minute 81 and brought the Pumas closer. In the second part, Pumas missed at least three goal opportunities; Necaxa maintained order and in 1985 they made it 3-1 with a goal from Oliveros off a pass from Ricardo Monreal. Necaxa rose to twelfth place with two wins, one draw, four losses and seven points, one less than the Pumas, eleventh in the standings.
