Montería saw a 3.5 percentage point decrease in youth unemployment and a 3 percentage point decrease in the general unemployment rate, becoming the Caribbean city with the greatest decrease in the unemployment rate and the second in the entire territory, according to figures from Dane.

The decrease in youth unemployment (from 24.8% in 2023 to 21.3% in 2024) represents a decrease of 3.5 percentage points, which is good news considering that the national average increased youth unemployment by 0.6%, going from 17.1% in the previous period to 17.7% currently.
In the recent figures revealed by Dane, it is also highlighted that while unemployment at the national level rose by 0.2% comparing the April-June moving quarter of 2023 and 2024, placing the figure for the current year at 10.4%; Montería went from 14.3% in 2023 to 11.2% in 2024, which means a decrease of 3 percentage points for the April-June quarter measured in the
last days by the Dane.

For the mayor of Monteria, Hugo Kerguelén, “all the actions and programs that have been carried out by the administration and the alliances that are being consolidated with the private sector have been fundamental in the reduction of the unemployment rate and youth unemployment.”
In Montería, 15,300 new people were reported employed compared to the last quarter of the previous year, which means an increase of 9% considering that the number went from 169,000 in 2023 to 189,000 in 2024.

It is highlighted that the sectors that most drive these figures are accommodation and food services with around 6,000 jobs, public administration with 5,000 and the manufacturing industry with 4,000.
It should be remembered that last month Montería also reported a downward figure, going from 14.1% in 2023 to 12.4% for the March-May quarter, which reflected a reduction of 1.7 percentage points.
