Monsignor Silvio José Báez: “Thinking differently is not a crime”

Silvio Báez

The auxiliary bishop of Managua, Monsignor Silvio José Báez, urged believers both inside and outside of Nicaragua -during his homily delivered at the Santa Ágatha parish, located in Florida, United States- to be tolerant, to seek the common good, Give up the idea of imposing your ideas on others.

“Faith in the God who is love prevents us from exercising power in a totalitarian way and imposing a unique system of thought in society, thinking differently is not a crime,” he said.

Although Báez did not mention any person or institution by name, the government of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo has been condemned internationally for being a dictatorship that attacks and imprisons citizens, simply for thinking differently.

During this Sunday’s mass, the Catholic leader explained how, from the perspective of a faithful believer, “individuals and institutions strive to overcome all logic of domination and oppression, we cultivate tolerance and sincere dialogue, we seek the good common to all of society and we fight against all inequality and discrimination”.

“When we believe that God is a relationship of love, we do not feel superior to anyone, we do not impose ourselves by force, we always try to seek dialogue, we offer opportunities, we know how to delegate and work as a team and we respect the rights and dignity of others. ”, he explained.

When defining how the attitude of those who believe in a God of love should be, Báez invited them to fight “against the selfish forces that disintegrate our hearts and enslave our lives.”
