Monsignor Silvio José Báez, auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Managua, said during his homily on Sunday, March 5, that “pain, injustice, evil and death do not have the last word in history… No night in life is forever.”
“We can feel scattered, weak and even failed for not having achieved the expected results. The force of injustice and violence seem invincible, there are no paths to a solution. In those moments we have to climb the mountain and distance ourselves from reality, rise above the plain of personal or ideological interests that make us rigid, indifferent or pessimistic”, he stressed.
During the homily, he remarked that “in social struggles, fatigue, failed attempts and disappointments are not the end. They are labor pains of a new society. They are darkness that announce the arrival of a new day full of light”.
“From the top of a hill the panorama is seen better, the horizon is broadened, everything is seen in a different way. It is not healthy to live alone on the plain, in the plain of the routine, conditioned by the urgencies of each day and full of fear due to the challenges of reality. We need to distance ourselves and rise above the swamps of failure, mediocrity and hopelessness. You have to go up and leave behind for a moment the fears and sadness that paralyze us ”, he preached.
Evil and injustice are not the end
Constituted as a prophetic voice that bothered the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, the bishop had to leave Nicaragua in April 2019, when it was learned that there were credible threats against his life. Since exile, the pastor has been able to continue preaching the word of God, and advocate for Nicaragua and for political prisoners, especially for Monsignor Rolando ÁlvarezBishop of Matagalpa, and Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Estelí.
“There is no need to be discouraged. Sin, evil and injustice are not the end…. It is time to rise above pettiness and selfishness. It is time to think sensibly, to create bonds of communion, to mutually encourage hope and become factors of unity. You have to transfigure the mind and the heart to be able to transfigure reality, ”she said.
He ruled that only with the strength of faith, “we will be able to see the light that is discreetly hidden in every darkness of life, we will be able to overcome our pessimism, not be crushed by failures, nor locked in by our narrow human calculations”.
