Monsignor Raúl Biord lectures on humility in mass in front of Maduro

Monsignor Raúl Biord asked that “ethical commitments” be present in the actions of Venezuelans. The statements of the second vice president of the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference come after the corruption scandals that have been uncovered in recent weeks and involve officials from PDVSA, Sunacrip and CVG, a deputy, a mayor, judges and businessmen

The Bishop of La Guaira, Monsignor Raúl Biord, lectured on the humility that all those people should practice, especially public officials, during a mass to commemorate Holy Tuesday and where President Nicolás Maduro was present.

«The path of God is built from the simple, like the manger in Bethlehem (…) All of us who are invested with authority need humility, in the church, in the community, in society, in the country. We must follow the example of Jesus, who, being God, lowered himself,” Biord said during his homily.

The Monsignor said that one can “be slaves to sins and vices”, but “we must reaffirm our commitment to a more humane world and homeland.”

He also asked that “ethical commitments” be present in the actions of Venezuelans.

At the end of the Eucharist, the Venezuelan ruler, who participated with his family in the mass, asked for “a lot of moral strength, a lot of spiritual strength to continue the path, sometimes full of rocks, difficulties and problems, some natural and others not so natural”.

Maduro also asked for “blessings” to be able to “face the challenges”, bring prosperity and protection to the most vulnerable Venezuelans, and “action to be useful, that each of us feel more useful to the community, to the family.”
