Monsignor Bretón attacks political corruption

By issuing his central message to the Catholic faithful on the day of the Virgin of La Altagraciathe Archbishop of Santiago and president of the Dominican Bishops’ Conference, Monsignor Freddy de Jesús Bretón, pointed out that the Catholic Church will always be against corruption.

He said we would have a better country if all the politicians would stay away from the corruption and be more honest as taught by the Virgin of La Altagracia.

The religious spoke about this and other topics when he offered the homily at the Eucharistic celebration held at the Nuestra Señora de La Altagracia sanctuary parish, in Santiago.

“The church has to be against the corruption or it betrays itself, if not then it is a ventorrillo, if it is a church it has to respect itself and promote what Christ promotes, good, whoever does so is with the Lord,” he pointed out.

pre-election year

Bretón pointed out that this pre-election year is when citizens must profess their faith even more and think about who they want to elect to direct the destinies of a country, and know how to differentiate from the politician who only seeks profit and the one who seeks the common good.

“There is a big difference between a politician who seeks the common good and one who only seeks to profit,” he said.

He affirmed that “we have examples of honesty”. “I never forget in my mind when I learned that Duarte reported even the pennies he had left over from the money they gave him to manage the war in the south.”

The religious called on the Dominican people to walk shoulder to shoulder as brothers doing good.

He congratulated the honest officials

The Catholic prelate stressed that it would be commendable if the public exalted officials when they do things well and punished them at the polls when they do badly.

“What happiness to know that there are also honest people, when you know that there is an official who is honest, unfortunately evil has the longest quill, it advertises more and lets itself be seen more, if one makes a mistake you have to put it in the four corners , but the one who is honest and complies must be proposed by the population,” said the monsignor.

Some authorities from the province were present at the Eucharistic celebration, including Governor Rosa Santos, the President of the Senate, Eduardo Estrella; the director of Proindustria, Ulises Rodríguez, among others.

Religious services for the feast day of the Virgin of La Altagracia They will be held until 6:00 p.m. this Saturday at the aforementioned Catholic temple.
