Monsignor Rolando Álvarez said during his homily, from the San Pedro Cathedral Church in Matagalpa, that the suffering in Nicaragua has intensified and that there can be no joy when there is so much pain in the country.
“Today is a day when we are called to serene and confident joy, but can we even think of joy when there is so much suffering around us and possibly in our families? Is it an invitation beyond all logic? », questioned the bishop.

“Today the suffering has intensified: death, illness, irremediable and sometimes irreparable family disintegration,” said the Catholic hierarch.
He also said that the country’s suffering is reflected in adolescents and young people who seek “escape in drugs, alcohol and gambling.”
He lamented that the economic situation in the country is suffocating and medicines unattainable for the poorest sector of the population, but that “for another sector, very small, they lead a life with luxury, waste and without shortages.”
Regarding the femicides that are registered in Nicaragua, Álvarez emphasized that “there is suffering when acts of violence against women and children are reproduced in the home, when in the neighborhood the strongest rules in quotes, even if their acts lack truth and logic.
“There is suffering when the State is plagued by influence peddling”
Alluding to the acts of corruption that are pointed out to the administration, Álvarez said that the suffering is seen “when in a society, in a town, in a service institution, influence peddling is plagued.”
«When the balance that weighs the little that can be bought is wrongly calibrated. When there is injustice in the fulfillment of the labor agreement, God is looking at both sides”, he added.

Despite the situation Nicaragua is experiencing, Monsignor Álvarez affirmed that “today is the serene and joyful hope, the serene and joyful joy, the one that comes from Christ that only he can give; the one that accompanies in mourning, death, the disease that is in the midst of the problems of each one of the families».
«God is there, he is not rejecting, on the contrary, he is waiting for us to return to him, it is he who waits for those who have closed in selfishness, by possessing for the sake of possessing and storing more and more, avoiding meeting the poor Lázaro who falls the crumbs from the table, “he said.
Monsignor Álvarez asserted that “the cross that Nicaragua carries today is gestating its redemption in itself, and it is here that we discover that we are a society, a family or simply people called to fight despite the multiple fragilities, limitations and sins.”

«We must fight from within and find our strength, with the strength of the gospel, of good will for a new society. When we do not let ourselves be carried away by anguish, concern, for tomorrow, fear of illness and death, we will stop looking for shortcuts or easy exits such as the drug tunnel, superstitions, what they call magic, witchcraft, sorcery. …».
“Nicaragua, let’s not lose faith, because God is with us and we have true and great hope in God the Father, rich in mercy, who has given us his son (Jesus Christ) to save us and this is our joyful hope,” he concluded. .
