Monsignor Álvarez surpasses Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo in popularity ratings

The survey recently carried out by the international firm CID Gallup shows that seven political prisoners surpass Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo in evaluating the image of public personalities where Bishop Rolando Álvarez, Cristiana Chamorro, Juan Sebastián Chamorro, Félix Maradiaga, Medardo Mairena, José Adán Aguerri and Arturo Cruz obtained favorable scores.

The political prisoners were rated with 19% and 32% in approval ratings, while the presidential couple was the worst rated in the survey with negative ratings in which unfavorable opinions outweigh favorable ones hovering with rates of less than 2% and minus 13%, respectively, according to the survey to which the digital media had access Confidential.

Ortega obtained a 38% favorable opinion and minus 40% unfavorable, while Murillo received 31% and minus 44%. The survey was conducted through telephone interviews with 1,200 citizens, between September 26 and October 10, focusing on Nicaraguans over 16 years of age, with a cell phone with an active line, distributed throughout the country.

In the same survey, the mayor of Managua, Reyna Rueda, was reflected as the best valued Nicaraguan personality, placing herself with 51% favorable opinion and 13% unfavorable. According to the pollster, Rueda “has gained supporters over the course of the year” and “is the only Sandinista public figure who has favorable opinions among the population.”

The bishop of the Diocese of Matagalpa and apostolic administrator of the Diocese of Estelí, Monsignor Rolando Álvarez, who has been under arrest imposed by the dictatorship for more than two months, is the second Nicaraguan personality with a high percentage of favorable opinion: 50%, according to the survey and received only 18% of unfavorable opinions.

Recently, the Costa Rican firm presented a survey in which the Ortega-Murillo administration was reflected with just 37% of citizen approval in government management. The same survey reveals that 57% of citizens believe that democracy is preferable to any type of government and that “free elections are important for democracy” in the country.

The report explains that a third of the population cites “corruption in government” as a serious problem. This situation affects the mistrust of Nicaraguans who do not see in the actions of the regime any interest in promoting a “better quality of life or improving the situation in general.”

In May 2021, 56% of Nicaraguans said that the Ortega administration was taking the country in the wrong direction. In September of last year, the discontent of the population increased and the figure reached the highest level since 2019 with 76 points.
