Monreal offers "reinforce resources" in 2026 to respond to disasters

In an interview, after announcing a collection center in the Lower House, the legislator affirmed that the criticism of the disappearance of the Fonden and the claims for an apparent late response from the authorities are “politicking.”

It is evident, Monreal maintained, that President Sheinbaum took control and command of the situation by going to the affected areas. However, he acknowledged that there are legitimate claims from people who lost everything.

“You have to understand people and you have to tolerate any situation,” he said.

-There are many claims that the Fonden disappeared, he was asked.

“It is a political attitude, the Trust had great corruption, it had prefigured allocations and there were impressive money leaks. Today there is a trust that without being called Fonden has 19,000 million pesos,” defended the deputy.

“So it is politicking, I think they should not use this misfortune for partisan purposes, for very despicable purposes, to use this tragedy, electorally, and we should all join together to help the population, as we are doing in the Chamber of Deputies.”

Monreal announced that, in order to support affected people in states such as Veracuz, San Luis Potosí and Hidalgo, there is also “the idea” that federal deputies contribute “a fee” to buy groceries.

The deputy assured that there was not only an immediate reaction, but also an “admirable” one from the federal government, which is why he described it as not serious enough to question the authorities’ response.

“The entire government apparatus is in the places where this unfortunate situation arose,” he defended.

Ministers will make a donation

The ministers agreed this Monday to donate part of their salaries to support families affected by the torrential rains in several states of the country.

At the beginning of the public session of the plenary session of the Supreme Court, the minister president, Hugo Aguilar, reported that they will make a contribution from their salaries to the purchase of groceries, although he did not specify amounts or percentage.

Aguilar added that they will invite all employees of the Judicial Branch to join the collection and confirmed the opening of collection centers at the main headquarters of the Historic Center, and at its alternate headquarters, on Avenida Revolución, in addition to federal courts throughout the country.

The Court also observed a minute of silence for the victims of the rains, which as of Monday numbered 64.
