Monreal does not close the door to reform to separate powers of SCJN and CJF

“This does not mean that it will not be presented. We are the Permanent Constituent and at any time the senators and deputies, or the Executive, have the possibility of presenting initiatives and no one should be surprised”, according to the leader of the legislative majority in the Senate.

In a conference, Monreal recognized that this reform was one of the proposals expressed in the last constitutional reform on the Judiciary, and he even said he was in favor of it and a promoter.

“I was the one who raised it with those who were my interlocutors in the Judiciary and in the Executive, and it did not prosper. I was convinced of this reform, Minister Zaldívar knows it and who was a legal adviser (of the Presidency) that I insisted on this reform. But so far there is no initiative or project, ”he said.

The senator said that “the issue of establishing a principle of separation between the Judicial Council and the Supreme Court of Justice was discussed, because the Judicial Council is responsible for exercising the budget, which is more than 80 billion pesos.” .

The CJF has broad powers and functions, “and we briefly discussed the convenience, since the last constitutional reform, of separating, so that the president of the Court would not in turn be president of the Judicial Council, but it did not prosper,” according to Monreal Avila.
