The Buenos Aires Ministry of Health released this Monday the measures to be adopted in the presence of monkeypox symptoms, which they can emerge up to 21 days after exposure to the pathogen.

Monkeypox is a viral zoonosis, that is, a disease caused by a virus that is transmitted from animals to humans by direct contact with lesions on the skin or mucous membranes and with secretions from the respiratory tract and by contact with contaminated objects such as utensils, towels or sheets.

The symptoms
It details as symptoms intense anorectal pain, persistent desire to defecate, bleeding and inflammation in the rectum associated or not with skin lesions and can also manifest with fever, headache, muscle pain, decay and inflammation in the lymph nodes.
Other symptoms are the appearance of rashes on the skin, small blisters with clear or yellowish liquid content, or scabs; Lesions caused by monkeypox can be painful and manifest both singly and in groups, most commonly in the mouth and in the genital, anal, and perianal areas.
Given these symptoms, the Buenos Aires health portfolio recommended approaching a health center to make the consultation; avoid contact with another person or share objects for personal use, use a mask and maintain care until infection is ruled out or until complete healing of the lesions in case of confirmation.
