The Ministry of Health reported that the first child case of monkey pox. This is a minor under 10 years of age, resident in the City of Buenos Aires who is under observation.
The portfolio led by Carla Vizzotti explained that the minor presented several symptoms compatible with the illnessamong them: fever of more than 38 degrees and rashes on his upper limbs, and after performing analyzes it was confirmed that it is monkey pox.
Although this is the first case of monkey pox in the child population in the country, in other nations infections have already been detected in this group, for which they recommend extreme precautionary and protective measures.
Regarding the case detected in the country, the health portfolio reported “that contagion could have occurred within the family and from close contact with a confirmed case”. Although the patient presents common symptoms of the disease, his health evolves favorably.
It should be remembered that in May the first contagion was detected in the country, since then, the cases have increased gradually; however, in the last month the number grew by 14%, since 85 cases were reported in recent weeks.
In total, the number of confirmed cases in the national territory amounts to 627, most of them occur in adults with an average age of 35 years. However, weeks ago the case of an 18-year-old adolescent was registered, and now the diagnosis is confirmed in a child under 10 years of age.
From the ministry they warned that “it must be taken into account that children and pregnant women can have a illness more serious” for which they recommend that the person who is infected “use a mask at home.”
Where are cases recorded in the country?
Of the 627 confirmed cases in the country, 67% are registered in the City of Buenos Aires. Likewise, in the provinces of Buenos Aires and Córdoba, 94.7% of the cases are concentrated.
While 62 infections originated in trips abroad, prior to the onset of symptoms, the remaining 378 “have a history of physical contact with suspected/confirmed/symptomatic cases, physical contact with a traveler and multiple/occasional relationships,” according to the ministry.
