He explained that this vaccine has already begun to be applied in some countries where there was an outbreak of the disease. “Negotiations are advanced and it is already a fact, only confirmation is needed,” he added about the situation in our country.
For his part, Dr. Guillermo Sequera, director of Health Surveillance, guaranteed that the entire health system is prepared to receive suspected cases of monkeypox. Treatment is primarily pain control of the injuries. “The challenge of therapeutic management is really the pain of the injuries, you have to use powerful analgesics, injectable if necessary, it is seen according to the evolution of each case”, he pointed out.
He also indicated that the sampling of suspected cases is similar to that of the PCR, but these samples are taken from the lesions, in the respective health regions, and are transferred to the central Public Health laboratory for analysis.
“It is a disease that is not as contagious as covid, it is due to close and prolonged skin-to-skin contact, such as sexual activity, which occurs in more than 90%. Exceptionally, it can occur in other circumstances for contagion, ”he explained.
The lethality is very low and since it is less contagious than Covid, it does not suffer as much as the previous pandemic. In addition there are few cases of children and pregnant women (there were two who suffered spontaneous abortions).
The only deceased in the region is the one from Brazil, and he lived with HIV (but with poor treatment) and in addition to that he suffered from cancer, for which he had a very depressed immunity.
