The Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported that the number of confirmed cases of monkeypox disease in Peru rose to 92. It was specified that those infected correspond to Metropolitan Lima (81), Lima Provinces (2), Callao (1), Ica (1), La Libertad (3), Tacna (1), Loreto (1), Piura (1) and Cuzco (1).
Through Twitter, the Minsa indicated that all patients receive assistance and five of these received medical discharge. In addition, contact identification is being carried out.
The districts of the capital with cases of monkeypox are: Chorrillos, San Juan de Miraflores, Comas, Carabayllo, Puente Piedra, La Molina, Villa María del Triunfo, El Agustino, Lince, Ate, La Victoria, Surco, Jesús María, Pueblo Libre, Cercado, San Martín de Porres, Los Olivos, Santa Anita, San Miguel, Rímac, Surquillo, San Borja, Miraflores, San Isidro and Mi Perú (Callao).
What are the symptoms of monkeypox?
- It begins with fever, headache (headache) and fatigue.
- Presence of adenopathies (swollen lymph nodes) in the neck, armpits and groin.
- Skin lesions that evolve uniformly.
- The incubation time is usually between 7 and 14 days, and can be extended from 5 to 21 days.
Risk groups and complications
The Minsa points out that “usually infection with the monkeypox virus does not lead to complications.” However, he adds that the presence of the following factors may be related to greater severity with hospitalization evaluation:
- Kids.
- Pregnant women.
- HIV patients, especially without adequate control.
- Immunosuppressed.
- People with chronic skin lesions or recent burns (due to the risk of bacterial contamination).
