In epidemiological week No. 23 (Sunday, June 4 to Saturday, June 10), the Department of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) confirms two new cases of monkeypox, both in the West Panama region, increasing to 237 confirmed cases, accumulated as of June 15.
Of the 237 confirmed cases, 89 cases were during the year 2022 and 148 cases so far in 2023.
The report highlights that 2 patients are active (2 in home isolation and 0 in health facilities), while 234 people ended their isolation, without major setbacks.
At the moment, only one death remains, due to monkeypox.
The accumulated cases have resulted positive 235 men and 2 women and the distribution of the cases, remain in the age range between 19 to 59 years.
For its part, the Expanded Immunization Program (PAI) reports that, until June 12, 1,606 doses of the monkeypox vaccine have been applied, with 1,132 first doses and 474 second doses.
The Minsa reiterates that people who are direct contacts and with HIV can be vaccinated to counteract the progression of the disease.
The corregimientos with the most confirmed cases are: Bella Vista with; San Francisco; Calidonia or The Exhibition; Bethany; Juan Diaz and Tocumen; New Town, Lefevre Park, Río Abajo; Chilibre, Vista Alegre and Arnulfo Arias Madrid in San Miguelito.
Since last May 24, 2022, Panama has maintained a health alert throughout the country and epidemiological surveillance has been redoubled in all health regions and all points of entry into the national territory.
