Moncada rejects UN statement: There is a “serious distortion of the facts”

Venezuela’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Samuel Moncada, called on the UN to take “immediate and public measures to clarify the situation, unambiguously identifying the source of escalation and condemning the provocative US military deployment.”

The permanent representative of Venezuela to the United Nations, Samuel Moncada, rejected the statements of the spokesperson for this organization, Stéphane Dujarric, who urged Venezuela and the United States “to lower tensions in the Caribbean”, after the US military deployment.

Moncada denounced that the official’s statement seeks to equate Venezuela with the United States to, as he stated, “downplay the violation of international laws by the North American imperial hegemon.”

In a video broadcast on Samuel Moncada’s Telegram channel, where he reads the letter delivered to António Guterres, he expressed “deep dismay” because, in his opinion, there is a “serious distortion of the facts and an immoral comparison between the aggressor and the victim.”

Venezuela’s permanent representative to the UN insisted that it is not his country that “carries out hostile actions, provocative and intimidating maneuvers a few kilometers from the United States,” nor is it the one that deployed a large number of resources and military troops, including a nuclear-capable submarine” or the largest aircraft carrier in the world.

Moncada denounced, once again, the attacks on “drug boats” in the Caribbean, which have left more than 70 dead, and said that the victims “have been subjected to extrajudicial executions.”

Samuel Moncada asked Guterres to take “immediate and public measures to clarify the situation, unambiguously identifying the source of escalation and condemning the provocative US military deployment.”

Likewise, he requested that the UN urge President Donald Trump to “immediately withdraw his military assets from the region” and to “cease his threats to use force.”

The Pentagon announced Operation “Southern Lance” on November 13 without explaining the objectives of the strategy against drug trafficking originating in Latin America. This generates more tension due to the pressure from the Trump Administration on Venezuela and Colombia with attacks on boats supposedly loaded with drugs in the Caribbean and the eastern Pacific.
