The family members were received by the multidisciplinary team of the Victim Support Center (NAV), linked to the Coordination for the Promotion of Victims’ Rights (CDV), and later met with the Attorney General of Justice, Luciano Mattos.

He assured that all the details of the crime will be investigated. “We are committed, with several prosecutors and prosecutors and the entire apparatus of the Public Ministry, so that we have the effective clarification of the crime and the accountability of all the culprits”, he said.

According to Mattos, the instruments currently available to the MPRJ include looking at the victim and welcoming the family.

“The MP had only a traditional role of promoting accountability, arrest and the punitive conclusion of the case, but there was no look at the victim and their family members. Now, there is a whole structure for the promotion of victims’ rights that works to welcome family members and assist in providing information about the investigation”.

The prosecutor responsible for the case, Alexandre Murilo Graça, presented the family with an overview of the investigations and said that the investigation of the crime did not end with the arrest of the three men who were caught on camera beating Moïse with clubs. According to him, any related crimes will also be clarified.

“We cannot anticipate what will be done so as not to jeopardize the investigation. But all facts related or correlated to the homicide will be investigated and clarified. We are facing a barbaric crime, we will give an answer. The Public Ministry is working with all its structure to bring these people to trial and to provide assistance to victims”.

Also participating in the meeting were the Secretary of State for Victim Assistance, Tatiana Queiroz, the president of the Human Rights Commission of the Brazilian Bar Association, Rio de Janeiro (OAB/RJ), Rodrigo Mondego, and the lawyers Ana Paula dos Santos and Raphael Dianduala.
