The Ministry of Justice and Public Security informed the Federal Supreme Court (STF) this Monday (22) that it sent to Itamaraty the extradition request of former federal deputy Alexandre Ramagem (PL-RJ), who is on the run in the United States.
With the request arriving at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the next step will be to formalize the extradition with the North American government. The extradition process was requested by Minister Alexandre de Moraes.
Former director of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin) during the government of Jair Bolsonaro, Ramagem was sentenced to 16 years in prison in the criminal prosecution of the coup plot.
In September, Ramagem fled the country to avoid serving his sentence and is living in Miami.
During the investigation into the coup plot, he was banned by Alexandre de Moraes from leaving the country and should have surrendered all national and foreign passports. According to the PF, Ramagem fled across the border with Guyana and embarked for the United States with a diplomatic passport.
Last Friday (19), the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Deputies declared the revocation of Ramagem’s mandate. The Constitution determines that the Chamber declares the loss of the parliamentary mandate due to the conviction.
