An electoral observation mission from the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) will come to Brazil to monitor the October elections, the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) confirmed today (27).
The CPLP has an Electoral Network, with representatives from Organs electoral bodies of Brazil, Portugal, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau and São Tomé and Príncipe. In an administrative meeting held this Tuesday (27), the collegiate approved the sending of the mission to Brazil.
“For the TSE, the participation of the CPLP as an observer of the Brazilian elections is really very important. We remind you that our motto is peace and security in the elections”, said Minister Edson Fachin, president of the TSE, at the time.
The TSE had invited the CPLP on April 12. Seeking to give greater reliability to this year’s electoral process, this cycle the Electoral Court intensified invitations to international bodies to participate as observers of the election in Brazil.
The Organization of American States (OAS), the Carter Center, the Mercosur Parliament (Parlasul), the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (Ifes) and the Inter-American Union of Electoral Organizations (Uniore) were also recently invited to send missions to Brazil. . “Conversations with these bodies are in progress”, informed the TSE.
It is common for international observation missions to take place during elections in Brazil. Less common, however, is the simultaneous participation of several international organizations. In the 2020 municipal elections, the election was accompanied by an OAS mission.
