A Russian missile hit a shopping center in Kremenchuk, in central Ukraine, on Monday, causing deaths and injuries, local authorities said, adding that the number of victims could be very high.
According to Kyrylo Tymoshenko, deputy head of the Ukrainian presidential administration, at least two people died and 20 were injured, nine of them seriously. “Rescue operations continue,” he said on Telegram.
“The missile shot against Kremenchuk reached a very popular place that had nothing to do with the hostilities”indicated on Facebook Vitali Maletsky, mayor of that city, which had 220,000 inhabitants before the war.
“There are dead and wounded. We will have more details later,” he added.
The regional governor, Dmytro Lunin, denounced a “war crime” and a “crime against humanity”, as well as an “undisguised and cynical act of terror against the civilian population”.
