Mariela Cerros, Miss World Nicaragua 2021, recalled with “nostalgia” that her father, the political prisoner Douglas Cerros, accompanied her at the coronation gala as beauty queen. The young woman shared on her Facebook page a series of three photographs of that night where she won the crown, her father was part of her “bar” that supported her in the contest.
Cerros regretted not sharing his experiences, stories, teachings of growth and personal improvement, all this caused by the imprisonment, trial and conviction against his father.
«But on this occasion I want to share the nostalgia of this date for me, where I could have my family together, in a special event and due to other circumstances it is no longer like that, life is summed up in these small moments of happiness. Love, value and treasure every wonderful experience that life gives us », Miss World 2021 wrote on her social network account.

The political trial against Douglas Cerros
Douglas Cerros was sentenced on February 11, 2022 to 12 years in prison for the alleged crimes of undermining national integrity and spreading false news. The judge who heard the case ordered the seizure of a truck owned by Cerros’ wife.
The judicial Verónica Fiallos, head of the Criminal District Court of Trials of the city of Ocotal, responded to the request of the Public Ministry and sentenced him to 8 years for violating the Sovereignty Law and 4 for cybercrimes.
The father of Miss World is a native of Ocotal, Nueva Segovia, and is recognized in the area for being hard-working and humble, he was found guilty of the aforementioned crimes on January 27.
The political prisoner was arrested on the eve of the general elections of November 7, in which Ortega obtained his third consecutive re-election, whose legitimacy has not been recognized by the Organization of American States (OAS), the European Union (EU ), and the bulk of the international community.
