Misinformation about the importation of poisonous snakes into the DR: the Zoo clarifies the truth

Santo Domingo. — The National Zoological Park clarified this Wednesday that the version circulating on social networks about the alleged importation of poisonous snakes from Puerto Rico as part of a donation is false and malicious.

The institution emphasized that “at no time have poisonous snakes been included, which do not exist on the neighboring island,” and that this misinformation affects the image of Puerto Rico as a territory free of dangerous fauna.

The Zoo explained that the only species requested from the Puerto Rican exotic fauna rescue center are alligators, ring-necked parakeets and rhesus monkeys.

Regarding the latter, he specified that There is no documented case of herpes transmission to humans in Puerto Rico.and that the animals were seized solely because they were used for photographs with tourists in parks.

The entity indicated that it is currently in the formal process to obtain the zoosanitary permit from the General Directorate of Livestock and the no-objection authorization from the Ministry of the Environment, essential requirements to introduce any animal species into the national territory.
