Former President of the Council of Ministers Mirtha Vasquez was pronounced after Gabriela Jiménez will present her letter of resignation to the position of Director of Immunizations of the Ministry of Health for “serious weaknesses that become threats” to the vaccination process against COVID-19.
Through a tweet, the former prime minister also urged the head of Health, Hernán Condori, to indicate what will be the strategy that will promote his management in relation to immunization against the new coronavirus, with a view to returning to face-to-face classes and the eventual increase in capacity.
“The resignation of the Director of Immunization generates strong concern and uncertainty about the vaccination plan and policy against the pandemic. It is urgent that Minister Hernán Condori specify the strategy from now on, especially ad portas of the return to classes and reopening of capacity”, said Vásquez Chuquilín.

In his letter addressed to the person in charge of the General Directorate of Strategic Interventions in Public Health (DGIESP), Gabriela Jimenez indicated that, “despite the efforts made”, vaccination against COVID-19 faces “serious weaknesses”.
Jiménez Quinteros revealed that they have not been called to meetings of the management team and that coordination meetings of the DGIESP staff are not held.

“We still cannot have financial resources to implement the necessary brigades throughout the country, the main strategy designed and proposed in this epidemiological and social scenario,” warns the resigning official.
The outgoing head of Immunizations also warns about irregular appointments in the portfolio: “A clear intrusiveness of some addresseswho decide and develop actions that are not consulted or shared with our management”.
However, he stressed that so far this year more than 10.7 million doses have been applied against COVID-19 “despite the aforementioned weaknesses.” “The national immunization team has continued to advance, united under the same objective: to continue on the immunization route, all evaluating progress on a daily basis, discussing strategies in the face of new challenges,” he explained.
