The president of the Council of Ministers, Mirtha Vásquez, rejected that the Government is going to take any “repressive measure” against any authority such as the Attorney General of the Republic, Daniel Soria, whose appointment was questioned by Pedro Castillo’s lawyer.
He also ruled out that the Executive has announced that the aforementioned attorney will be removed from office, despite the statements of the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Aníbal Torres.
“There were some comments regarding the prosecutor’s actions that came from the defense of the President of the Republic, but the Executive will not act in a repressive manner against any authority. The Minister of Justice, Aníbal Torres, said that he was going to review within the framework of the law the appointment of Daniel Soria as Attorney General of the Republic, after the president’s lawyer, Eduardo Pachas, assured that he did not have the necessary experience to hold office.
“There is a request from the defense to review any action of the attorney. It is a requirement. As the attorney depends on the Ministry of Justice, the Minister of Justice has expressed that he could access this request that has been made to review some aspects related to his performance “, Vásquez asserted.
“But that does not mean, it should not be construed as interference, as persecution. No one has announced that the attorney will be withdrawn. That must be made clear. It is not, in any way, the objective of this Government. We reaffirm our sense of independence from the authorities ”, added.
Aníbal Torres on the attorney
It should be remembered that Pedro Castillo’s lawyer, Eduardo Pachas, visited the office of the Minister of Justice on Tuesday, January 4, according to the official visitor registry.
On Wednesday, a day after that visit, the legal defender of the head of state made a public request through statements to the press for Aníbal Torres to review whether the appointment of Daniel Soria as attorney general of the Republic complied with the requirements of law.
“I urge Aníbal Torres to examine whether this man has had two years of litigation and if he does not have them, that the appointment be annulled and that he return all the money that this man has collected for that public position”, expressed on Canal N.
In response, Aníbal Torres indicated that he will review the file of the appointment of Daniel Soria according to law, and that this will not mean that he will be removed from the position.
