“We are a group of colleagues who come from the democratic left. Indira Huilca, Ruth Luque – we are also accompanied by colleagues like Rocío Silva-Santiseban – we are debating what our role is going to be. There have been some approaches in political parties, we are in fairly advanced conversations with Ahora Nación, who have had the deference of not only inviting us to dialogue but also being open to listen to our positions,” she said on the Fuerte y Claro program hosted by Manuela Camacho.

The former Chief of Staff pointed out that the definition process is at a key stage and that, together with other former congresswomen and leaders, they have been evaluating whether to assume a direct electoral role or fulfill other functions within the current political scenario.
“The limit is now, that’s why we have to define. In this context we believe that we could play a game, they are not easy decisions. One personally thinks that perhaps I would say no after what I have suffered in these positions. But there is a political responsibility towards the country, when one enters politics one has to think about what one offers to the country. I believe that this week there will be news. If it is consolidated we will enter into a direct fight in these upcoming elections and if not we still have to fulfill roles,” he added.
Question transparency in upcoming elections
At another time, the former prime minister questioned the upcoming electoral process, pointing to Congress as the one responsible for legislating for their own benefit so that they can be re-elected. In its position, Parliament has provided itself with sufficient power to intimidate the electoral authorities.
“I think there is enough evidence to say that we can really doubt that we are going to elections that are sufficiently transparent, objective, and that is because all this sort of tampering with the electoral process has started several months ago by Congress itself, modifying the Constitution and the laws to have a great advantage in being re-elected,” he emphasized.
Along these lines, he maintained that the Executive has been weakened before Congress, removing the control powers that existed between the powers of the State. The current structure, he noted, consolidates all prerogatives in the Legislative, while the Executive and Judicial are subjugated to what Parliament decides. “Those 60 senators will have super power, only the Senate will decide on the future of the country and they will be the ones who direct everything,” he stressed.
