The documentary ADN Cuba Route It premieres this Thursday a chapter dedicated to the Volleyball Mireya Luis, exploring its genetic heritage, as part of the 9th summer film festival.
Directed by Alejandro Gil and based on research by Dr. Beatriz Marcheco, director of the National Center for Medical Genetics, the episode reveals the ancest Cuban News Agency.
The series, produced by the ICAIC, combines science and social narrative to analyze the ethnic diversity that defines Cuban identity, presenting public figures such as Luis, Osvaldo Dimeadiós and Zuleica Romay.
Alexis Triana Hernández, president of ICAIC, said in a press conference that the project is a centerpiece of the festival, underlining its cultural value.
Meanwhile, Mireya Luis expressed his emotion to participate, stating that knowing his roots was “a wonderful experience, a before and after” that allowed him to value his identity more.
The Japanese ambassador, Kazuhito Nakamura, and the cultural aggregate Tajika Akishi attended the announcement, praising Luis’s overall influence on volleyball.
Gil thanked the team, including producer Milton Alvarado and photography director Luis Alberto Ramírez, for capturing the life and legacy of the athlete.
The documentary, part of a series of six chapters, includes future deliveries over Silvio Rodríguez, Roberto Diago and Nelson Aboy.
