Maduro stressed that the actions undertaken by the Trump administration, in addition to putting at risk the “peaceful coexistence” between nations, “seriously endanger the stability of Venezuelan oil production and the international market.”
The Maduro administration denounced to OPEC that the United States government “intends to seize Venezuela’s vast oil reserves.”
In a letter addressed to Haitham Al Ghais, secretary general of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and OPEC and OPEC+ Member countries, Nicolás Maduro made reference to the “campaign of harassment and threats” that Donald Trump has been carrying out against Venezuela since mid-August.
«As part of that campaign, various US military assets have been deployed to the Caribbean region, including more than fourteen (14) warships and 15,000 personnel. In addition, US authorities have carried out more than twenty (20) bombings against small boats, resulting in the extrajudicial murder of more than eighty (80) people,” he noted.
Maduro highlighted that the actions undertaken by the Trump administration, in addition to putting at risk the “peaceful coexistence” between nations, “seriously endanger the stability of Venezuelan oil production and the international market.”
In the statement, Maduro assured that they will remain firm in the defense of Venezuela’s natural energy resources and asked the Secretary General of OPEC for help to avoid a major conflict.
“I hope to count on your best efforts to contribute to stopping this aggression that is brewing with increasing force and seriously threatens the balance of the international energy market, both for producing countries and for consumers.”
He conflict between the United States and Venezuela has escalated in recent days with the warning from the United States authorities about the “potential risk” that flying over Venezuelan territory represents for airlines. Following the warning from the US Federal Aviation Administration, several companies suspended their scheduled flights and, subsequently, the Maduro administration revoked their concession.
This Saturday, President Trump again warned airlines about the risks and asked them to consider Venezuelan airspace “completely closed.”
