Arequipa, Peru – The Ministry of Public Health (Minsap) in the province of Santiago de Cuba issued An official note This Sunday about the death of a patient at the Juan Bruno Zayas Alfonso General Hospital.
According to the Directorate of Health in the territory, during the early hours of this Saturday, August 2, a patient from Guantanamo (admitted to the previous day) was found outside his hospital ziction, on the ground, close to one of the premises where garbage collectors are deposited.
“Even alive, and due to his state of health and advanced age, the care staff mobilized and transferred him to the Emergency Department, where, despite the timely and intensive treatment, he died,” said the statement.

The Minsap statement is limited to denying the versions disseminated in social networks that denounced a possible medical or institutional negligence. This, without offering objective details about the circumstances or causes that led to the supposed fall of the patient.
“Drillingly, social media has been disclosed in fake information related to this event (…) repudiation is ratified to those unscrupulously, cause alarm and misinformation states,” justifies the official note.
This fact occurs in a context of growing concern for the health crisis on the island, marked by the lack of medicines, lack of basic supplies, ruins hospitals, and problems in services.
In this regard, the independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta He reacted to Facebook to the statement of the Health Directorate in Santiago de Cuba, his native province.
“A patient appears dying next to the garbage tanks of a hospital and the fault is … of social networks?” The reporter questioned.
Mayeta denounced that the “informative note” does not ask for forgiveness or assume responsibilities, but indicates to those who raise their voice and demand explanations of the case.
“Where was the nursing staff? Where were the surveillance protocols? How is it possible for someone to leave their room without anyone noticing it, and reaches a garbage basket?” The journalist Santiago worries.
The situation of the deceased patient at the Juan Bruno Zayas Alfonso Hospital naked a system of Depouperated healthwith little or no security, and that continues to be the focus of the Castro speech, interested in perpetrating an image of “medical power” in the face of the collapse that the Cubans suffer daily.
