According to that agency, the infected patient is a 27-year-old Cuban citizen residing in the province of Cienfuegos. She is currently admitted, isolated and with medical follow-up.
The report indicates that the contagion was caused by “contact of a Cuban citizen residing in the United States, who presented suspicious symptoms of the disease.
The MINSAP indicates that the man arrived in Cuba on September 3 of this year and returned on the 13th of the same month.
“The diagnosed patient began with symptoms on September 15, going to the Health services on the 22nd. On September 23, monkeypox infection was confirmed in the patient, in a study carried out at the IPK National Reference Laboratory,” the information added.
The MINSAP note adds that the contacts of the infected patient “are already discharged, with no evidence of transmission of the disease in the focus controls carried out.”
The first case of monkeypox in Cuba was registered on August 20. The infected person was a man of Italian nationality who had arrived in Cuba as a tourist five days earlier.
The patient would die on August 22 due to sepsis due to bronchopneumonia to an unspecified germ and multiple organ damage.
The second case of monkeypox recorded on the island was a 60-year-old Cuban resident in the United States who arrived in the country on August 26 from Miami and reported no health problems during the control carried out at the international airport in Havana.
