Minsap: 17 people remain hospitalized due to the fire in Matanzas

The Cuban Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) reported that as of Saturday morning, 17 patients remained hospitalized as a result of injuries sustained in the fire at the Matanzas Supertanker Base.

Of these 17 people, one is a woman and 16 are men, while four are in critical condition, another four are reported in serious condition, and nine are considered to be in care, according to the part Of the entity.

These patients are admitted to six hospitals in Havana and Matanzas. The Luis Díaz Soto Military Hospital, in the Cuban capital, with six, and the Faustino Pérez, in the city of Matanzas, with four, maintain the highest number of wounded.

According to the MINSAP, the number of people injured in the incident amounts to 146, of whom 16 lost their lives —including the 14 listed as missing and whose funeral honors were held this Friday in Matanzas—while 113 people have already been discharged.

The Cuban health authorities assure that “medical assistance continues to all people injured by our health professionals, with the necessary resources for their care.”

In addition, in their communication they reiterate “the gratitude to all the agencies, organizations and people in general, who have supported the actions we carry out with patients and their families, as well as the concern shown by hospitalized patients.”

Finally, they confirm that from the official accounts of the Ministry of Public Health a daily part will continue to be published, to report on the evolution of hospitalized patients.
