Minsa was alerted by Costa Rica to the theft of SIMILAC® Infant Formula

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) informs the population that the National Directorate of Food Control and Veterinary Surveillance, through the Sanitary Alerts Unit, has been informed about the health alert generated by the Costa Rican Ministry of Health, due to the theft of 26,496 units of SIMILAC® Infant Formula, manufactured by Abbott Laboratories in Ireland.

The Abbott Laboratory of Costa Rica has promptly reported this event and filed the corresponding complaint with the judicial authorities of that country, since there could be a risk for consumers, since it is not possible to follow the trace of the merchandise nor can it be guaranteed that has been handled, stored and transported properly. Hence, the products could be deteriorated, contaminated or adulterated.

The Health Mystery rrecommends to the general population:

· Do not sell, use or consume food when it is suspected that they are of doubtful origin.

· Report any information on the presence in the market of the batches mentioned in this alert to the Ministry of Health through the National Directorate of Food Control and Veterinary Surveillance mail: [email protected]
