The Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported that to date there is one confirmed case of infection caused by meningococcus in the city of San Antonio del Estrecho, located in the province of Putumayo, in the region of Loreto.

Through a statement, the Minsa indicated that to date, there is a confirmed case of invasive meningococcal disease due to Neisseria meningitidis, serotype B, who is receiving due medical attention and treatment at the Regional Hospital of Loreto.
“Rapid Response Teams A total of 15 suspected cases have been identified in the town of San Antonio del Estrechowhich were re-evaluated by specialists and in 12 of them symptoms compatible with meningococcal meningitis were ruled out,” he said.
Likewise, the Ministry of Health identified three patients, who were referred for re-evaluation. “At the Regional Hospital of Loreto There are 5 patients: 2 in the pediatric service, 2 in infectious diseases and 1 in ICU. Among them, the confirmed case with Neisseria meningitidis,” he said.
“Tests to rule out leptospira and dengue have been performed on all suspected cases because Loreto is a transmission zone for these diseases,” he said, reporting that as of 10:45 am on August 30, no new suspected cases compatible with meningococcal meningitis have been reported in the CS del Estrecho.
The Minsa, through the team of the National Center for Epidemiology, Prevention and Control of Diseases (CDC Peru) assured that it continues monitoring the situation and taking the necessary measures for the control and prevention of the disease in that region.
