The Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported today, December 12th, that 8 people died from COVID-19 in the country. With this number, the number of deaths from the deadly virus in Peru rose to 217,657. In addition, 4,958 infections were registered in the last week (2,462 cases in the last 24 hours), so the total number of infected people reaches 4,359,209.
The Minsa also reported that there are a total of 725 hospitalized patients, of which 139 are on mechanical ventilation in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Vaccines in Peru
So far, Peru has received vaccines from Sinopharm, Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Moderna. All of these are applied according to the programming by age groups established by the Government after inoculating with priority health personnel, older adults and members of the National Police, Armed Forces and Firefighters.
Immunization in Peru began in February 2021, after the arrival of the first batch of vaccines from China (Sinopharm). To date, vaccination continues throughout the country.
From September 25, 2022, children under 5 years of age are vaccinated (from 6 months to 4 years and 11 months and older).
For this population group, the inoculation was implemented in the regions as of Monday, September 26.
To date, the third dose is placed in people 5 years and older. Likewise, the fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine is applied to people over 18 years of age.
