The Ministry of Health, through the Department of Epidemiology, provided data corresponding to epidemiological week No. 50 (December 8 to 14), on the registration of cases of Zika, Dengue, Chikungunya, Leishmaniasis, Malaria, Hantavirus, Leptospirosis, Screwworm in humans and respiratory infections.
Dengue: Until epidemiological week No. 50, a total of 31,048 accumulated cases of dengue were recorded nationwide.
The report detailed that, of that figure, the Metropolitan Region with 8,321 leads the region with the most cases; followed by San Miguelito with 4,021; Colón with 3,247; Panama Oeste with 3,229; North Panama with 2,931; Bocas del Toro with 1,825; Panama East with 1,698 cases; Chiriqui 1,673; Los Santos with 1,252; Darien with 694; Coclé with 582; Veraguas with 486; Herrera 480; Ngäbe-Buglé region with 317; Kuna Yala with 284. Likewise, 8 cases in foreigners are reported.
Zika: For epidemiological week No. 50, no cases were reported. A total of two cases accumulate in 2024.
Chikungunya: A cumulative twelve cases are recorded in 2024.
Leishmaniasis: In week 50 of the current year, 16 cases were reported for a cumulative total of 1,035 in 2024.
Malaria: Until week 50, 14,121 cases had accumulated in 2024.
Oropouche Virus Disease: On November 15, the ICGES reported a confirmed case detected through the analysis of a negative Dengue virus sample collected in week 36.
Hantavirus:
Hantavirus fever: Until week 50, 15 cases accumulate.
Hantavirus Cardiopulmonary Syndrome: No case reported in the current week. In the year 2024, a total of 9 cases accumulate.
Leptospirosis: 74 cases accumulate in 2024.
Screwworm in humans: 89 cases of myiasis in screwworm wounds accumulate in 2024.
Monkeypox (Mpox): In the current week, no cases of Mpox were reported for a total of 5 accumulated cases in 2024.
Severe Acute Respiratory Infections (SARI): The cases of SARI (bronchopneumonia, pneumonia and Coronavirus as a cause of diseases) reported in the current week are 390. The accumulated cases in 2024 reach the figure of 22,479.
