Minsa announces second dose in vaccination for people over 30 years of age

Observatorio Ciudadano

The Nicaraguan Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported, through the social networks of the Local System of Comprehensive Health Care (Silais-Managua), that this November 4 will begin the application of second doses of Covishield and AstraZeneca vaccines in older people 30 years old, who have received the inoculant before October 1.

“We started with the application of the second dose of vaccine for people over 30 who were vaccinated with the first dose of Covishield and AstraZeneca”, indicates part of the publication that Sede Silais Managua made on its Facebook portal.

CONFIDENTIAL He called the central 132 of the National Center for Covid-19 Information, authorized by the Minsa, and confirmed that next Monday, November 4, the day of application of second doses will start for Nicaraguans over 30 years of age.

The Minsa enabled 1,087 vaccination posts that are located in health centers and posts throughout the country. According to the Silais Managua Headquarters, in the case of the capital, Nicaraguans seeking their second dose of the inoculant will be vaccinated in “all health centers and posts” to complete their vaccination schedule. On its website, Silais reported where the vaccination posts will be located in the capital’s districts.

It should be noted that, during the first day of vaccination of people over 30 years old, there was a massive attendance of the Nicaraguan population, who even complained about crowds, the long lines they had to do and the few health posts enabled by the Minsa for said vaccination day. For the application of the second dose, this time hospitals of the public health system will not be used.

However, it is not clear if this percentage – indicated by Murillo – is of people who have the complete vaccination scheme or of those who only have a single dose of the inoculants.

Observatory reports downward trend in infections

The advance of the pandemic in Nicaragua, after reaching its highest peaks of infections, has registered a downward trend since last month. The Minsa reported last Tuesday its fourth week of decrease in the number of covid-19 infections, indicating that from October 19 to 26, 398 new cases of coronavirus were recorded, 106 less than the previous week.

In contrast, the Covid-19 Citizen Observatory reported that from October 21 to 27 they registered “54 new suspected cases,” which represents a 75% decrease in the number of suspected cases in relation to the number reported last week. It should be noted that the new suspected cases that this independent monitoring reports -on this occasion- are from seven, of the 15 departments of the country.

The independent monitoring records that in that period – from October 21 to 27 – there were 24 new deaths suspected of covid-19, reported from nine departments of the country. Although the death data collected independently continues to show a decrease, this time by 56% compared to the previous week, they are still higher than the official death data, since the Minsa continues to report for more than a year only one dead per week.
