Minsa analyzes the behavior of COVID-19 and the possibility of modifying biosecurity measures.

The Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, announced that the Epidemiology and Public Health team of the Ministry of Health (MINSA) is monitoring the permanent behavior of the virus in the countries that have varied their biosecurity measures, so they continue evaluating the current measures in Panama and their possible modifications.

Regarding this, the director of the metropolitan health region, Israel Cedeño, said that in Panama the decrease in the incidence of cases is notable, so the possible lifting of restrictions in the country is not ruled out.

“The incidence of Covid has decreased in the last 30 days, but we cannot sing victory because the same thing happened in December and the omicron variant appeared,” he said, stressing that biosecurity measures such as the mandatory use of masks will soon be made more flexible in open spaces.

In the last 24 hours, the Minsa reported 300 new cases of coronavirus and three deaths for a total of 8,146 deaths and a lethality of 1.1%.

But he made the caveat that even when all restrictions are lifted “such as the mandatory use of masks, which we will surely achieve soon, at least in open spaces” the guard can be lowered.

He specified that hand washing, avoiding crowds, going to the doctor if you have cold symptoms are measures that will remain for the rest of our lives and not only for Covid-19 but for all airborne diseases.

“Even when we say zero masks anywhere, we cannot forget the basic biosecurity measures… we cannot forget those basic measures, we have to continue using them for the rest of our lives,” he said.
