In the midst of the political control debate carried out in the Senate due to the high prices of electricity, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Irene Vélez, He assured that after having had meetings with members of the business sector and the Government, this Friday, September 16, he would present the measures to counteract the high energy prices.
(See: The law for which Minminas was called to attention in Congress).
During the session in the Fifth Committee, Minister Vélez stressed that the measures will seek, especially, to improve the situation in the Caribbean coast.
Among the proposals put forward by the leader of the portfolio is do not use the IPP (Producer Price Index) as an indexer of contracts on a temporary basis and use the CPI (Consumer Price Index) which is currently a little lower.
With this, added the official, the increase in prices in the service would be stopped.
(See: Isagen also presented measures to reduce energy prices).
He also pointed out that, in the medium term, the objective is search for an index specifically designed for the electricity sector and whose fluctuations will not generate the impacts that have occurred due to the increase in the PPI.
It should be noted that Minister Vélez had called the companies to renegotiate their bilateral contracts, so that the generators would not apply the IPP (Producer Price Index) or at least not completely, which would mitigate the increase.
