Minminas denies Irene Vélez’s lack of requirements to take office

The Ministry of Mines and Energy reported that the minister designated for the portfolio, Irene Velez, he does meet the requirements for holding this position.

According to the portfolio, the deputy director of Human Talent of the Ministry, Sandra Milena Rodríguez, certified that Vélez complies with the requirements set forth in the Functions Manual.

(See: Criticism for the most controversial appointments of Petro’s cabinet).

They emphasize that the official complies with “be a Colombian citizen, over 25 years of age and have no disabilities or incompatibilities for the position. Likewise, this Ministry certified to the Presidency of the Republic the fulfillment of the same through the official regulatory documents.“.

(See: ‘Tax would not solve structural problems’: Corficolombiana).

It should be remembered that this manual indicates that the academic and experience requirements of the person assuming this position are the same as those of a representative to the House, which is fulfilled by Vélez.

At the moment, Vélez has not yet officially taken office, but this is expected to take place this Thursday, August 10.
