Minminas confirms measures to control rise in energy prices

After President Gustavo Petro summoned the electricity unions to account for the increases in energy in the middle of the rainy season, The Minister of Mines and Energy, Irene Vélez, reported that decisions will be made regarding the indexer used for the variation in the price of energy.

(Petro will quote the energy sector to evaluate price hikes).

It should be remembered that they are currently used in PPI (Producer Price Index) and CPI (Consumer Price Index) as indexers and recently the PPI has had annual variations that even exceed the same inflation data.

“In the short term, the goal is to use the most favorable indicator among those that currently impact the cost of energy rates,” the Energy portfolio said in a statement.

Although this would be the short-term decision, the Deputy Minister of Energy, Belizza Ruiz, stressed that for the medium term they are constituting a specific indicator for the sector “That allows us to achieve tariff justice in the country.”

It was also pointed out that another of the issues on which they are working together with the Creg and the Superintendence of Public Services is “review the regulation of energy rates in order to make them stable and affordable for all citizens, especially those located on the Caribbean Coast.”
